Adobe Air public beta released
Jun 11th, 2007 by Dave
Ok, I didn’t mean to say Adobe released some air…….but rather, THE Air. I kinda liked Apollo better, but fine we’re to call it Air from now on. You can download the installer here. Updates included in this release are:
- Transparent HTML application support
- Windowing API improvements
- Native File Pickers / Browsers
- Server / Service Connectivity API
- Native Menuing API
- Drag and Drop
- Clipboard Support
- Embedded database
- File type/extension registration
My question is, does this release support detecting the Flash player in the htmlControl?
I ran into some problems a while back when I had a full video/audio chat application built for FMS and it made use of the htmlControl and sharedObject to share so the users could take over the mouse (not really, but users could remotely view where one other user was pointing). The point of this app was simply a chat where users could browse the web (one user would take control) and make a presentation basically. Sure, it’s pointless, but I wanted to see it work in Apollo
However, once I browsed a site with some Flash on it (like……mine for example), nada! Needless to say I was a bit disappointed.
Going to have to read through all the goodies Adobe provided and see what can be done with Apo…..I mean Air now.
Now here’s another silly question, what the hell is THIS all about? Adobe’s going on the road for the on Air tour?? A summer long bus tour throughout North America, filled with big name Flash, Flex and Air developers. The on Air bus will be making stops at such notable places as the State Theater in Washington DC, the Franklin Institute in Philly, and Kell’s Irish Pub in Portland Oregon?! This is too cool! There are a number of pubs and breweries on the list of stops. Where do I sign up?! You think they’ll make Mike Chambers the designated driver? No, I kid I kid. This is actually pretty cool. A word that comes to mind is…….elaborate anyway. They’re even bringing special hardware along for the trip. Very nice!
