New to programming with AS3?

An interesting thing occurred to me today. More and more I'm hearing about programmers of other languages like Java and C# picking up on ActionScript 3. Of course this isn't news to many people, but that's not the point of this post. I wonder how many of you out there came to AS3 originally from a Java/C#/C++ background? Over my career, I've met two kinds of Flash/Flex developers; the Graphic Designers who always made killer animations in Flash and inevitably ended up learning AS over the years until it matured into a grown up, OOP compliant language. And then I'm meeting more and more developers who always viewed Flash/Flex as a designer tool, but they're interest was peaked with AS3. So they're now working regularly on projects for the Flash player.
I remember some tales of the old days when I would be building some Smart Clips in Flash 5 and some of my developer buddies would laugh at me and my Flash
We would tell them back then, get into Flash, it's going to be huge! Years later and they're almost exclusively working with the Flash player on their projects.
I've been working with C# and .NET for a long time now and like it very much, but still AS3 is my favorite by far. And now with Air we get access to the hard drive. I know a lot of designers who have become OOP programmers over the years having worked with Flash, but lately I'm meeting lots more developers from Java/C# backgrounds starting to take up the ways of the AS3 programmer.
I thought it would be an interesting experiment to find out more of what they think of AS3, and also if the old school Flash devs like myself out there notice the same?
