Flex and Flash jobs, onsite, remote, you name it
Aug 28th, 2009 by Dave
A while ago, I had mentioned posting these projects/jobs that are sent to me when I’m overbooked and can’t fill them. I get contacted in one way, shape, or form about 5000 times a day for good projects, ok projects, sometimes awful sounding projects, but I know I can’t fill them.
So to help spread the word and get Flexers linked up with projects, I was looking for an easier way to post the info rather than having to go to forums, etc (which is a big PIA). Turns out Greg Wilson’s tblurb.com offers the perfect solution. Greg came up with tblurb as a way to post a larger amount of characters along with Twitter. Since Twitter only allows 140 characters, using tblurb enables you to share large snippets of code or Grannies brownie recipe, or whatever you like.
I was just contacted for a project today that sounded pretty good, and tblurb came to mind as the perfect way to share. So going forward, as I run across the good projects, I’ll post them to tblurb through my Twitter account

We all seem to get the same calls – these recruiters do keyword searches on Dice, Monster, etc., and then bulk-spam everyone and anyone who comes up on the search. You could have had the keyword ‘flexible’ in your resume, you come up in the search and they email you even though you said you were a ‘flexible garbage hauler’. Nine out of ten times the recruiter is totally clueless about what the requirements actually mean, as well (e.g., ‘OK, you’ve got ten years of flex development experience…have you any experience with MXML?’)
Nice thought though, but these recruiters are working so hard to blanket the requests to everyone on the moon, I doubt you need to take your precious time to try to re-post them.
Totally in agreement, it’s very true. But I know a while back I was looking specifically for remote Flex projects and had trouble finding some. Now they run across my desk a few times a week at least.
So I figured tblurb.com was perfect to post them up for other Flexers who may not have heard of them (they were neglected in the recruiter spam – ha!). Also, this way allows devs to pick and choose, can’t stop the countless emails, but at least there’s an option. I do get a lot of people asking if PXL has work too, so I figured let me post what I can. Maybe I’ll turn it into a side biz, the recruiters can buy me lunch for helping them out
ha!
We ought to build an RIA that competes with Dice et al, but uses a more intelligent model and perhaps ties into social networking to bring clients and consultants together on a more personal level…
Funny you should mention that Fuad, we were thinking along the same lines on combining a few of our AIR apps for a similar purpose. Great minds think alike – ha!
