Attest 3.0 for the Adobe Flex 4 ACE Certification official release!
Sep 7th, 2010 by Dave
Have you waited long enough?
Then without further ado, Holly and I would like to present to you Attest 3 for your studying pleas…well it’s not fun studying, anyway, here’s Attest 3.
Some things to note and some history on Attest:
There were many late night bug fixes, involuntary naps where heads hit the desk from hours of reading livedocs, the AIR Marketplace submission process bug that held things up a bit, but it feels great to finally release Attest bigger and badder than before!
I will definitely take this opportunity to thank Holly again for all her help. She had jumped in on Attest from the 2nd version and has been true blue ever since. I’m very thankful to have such an excellent colleague, without her work Attest would not be the de facto study guide for the Flex ACE exams it became.
Facts about Attest
The free version is the actual trial version. It got too tough to maintain two different versions of the app with our workloads, so we decided to make the trial last forever and give access to one mini for starters. The Adobe AIR Marketplace software allows for a 99 month trial maximum, so instead of infinity you have 99 months to get certified.
In the future as we write more questions, we plan on upping the amount available for the free/trial version. This version is not the beta version it was two weeks ago when I blogged about it. We planned on getting the beta version on the Marketplace but then their approval process bug showed up and by the time the Adobe team fixed it, we had the full version ready.
The current version for download is 3.0.3. This version has a few bug fixes that were pretty annoying. It was just approved on the AIR Marketplace.
The version currently available for download at software.pxldesigns.com/attest3 is (3.0.2). We submitted a patched version 3.0.3 which fixes a few minor bugs and issues we ran into and fixed quickly. This version has been submitted to the AIR Marketplace for vetting. It will be available shortly and I’ll post once it’s out.
More goodies to come later in the week hopefully. Look for more updates, questions, and study data in the near future, and as always, let us know what you think. Let’s DO this thing!

The trial version says it is good for 99 months, not 99 days. Which is it?
When I launch Attest and select to Study, only the User Interface and Architecture tabs are active, the Programming, Data Sources, and AIR tabs are disabled. Is this because it is the trial version? If so I have not seen any mention of this at all.
When is the Flex 4 exam to be released?
Oops, that’s correct. 99 months, not days. That’s what you get for staying up late fixing bugs.
Yes, the other tabs are disabled only on the trial version.

Hi, I think you have done a great job with this app. The only thing that bugs me is that you are making it hard for me to buy it
Can you please post here a valid link from where to buy this app. Thank you in advance.
Hi Vlad,
The only way to purchase is when you first start up Attest, there’s the green “Get License” button. That’s from the Adobe AIR Marketplace and come to think of it, it probably should say purchase license or something like that. We can’t change it unfortunately, but I’ll definitely let the AIR Marketplace team know about any user feedback.
Maybe I am missing something, but when I download this AIR app and run it, the practice exams are all for Flex 3, not Flex 4. Also, there is no green button to purchase..
Suggestions?
@super80,
You probably downloaded the wrong version, the newest one (version 3) can be found here http://software.pxldesigns.com/attest3/

is that right as i heard RIA is not only about technology and RIA technology offers more user interface components. Developers need not rely on typical HTML conventions to build their applications.

Why flexproject is bigger in size than ActionScript Project?
@Umair, The Flex framework itself is a few 100 k. Actionscript 3 is the underlying language and is much lighter than the Flex framework (which is a heap of classes built with AS3). If you want the project to come down in size, look into RSL’s http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=rsl_02.html
how to buy the license? their is no green button to purchase, i downloaded attest 3 at the given site.
When you first run the program, there should be the trial window that asks if you want the trial vs purchase app. What happens when you run Attest?
How big is the question database? I seem to get the same questions over and over again? I’m obviously learning those, so its becoming difficult now to gauge whether i’d pass the actual exam.
@Mark,
The full version of Attest has about 200+ questions. I wouldn’t just focus on the questions themselves though, make sure to really go through each section in the LiveDocs and understand the concepts behind them. Other than that, if you’re at the point where you’re memorizing the questions and you feel confident that you know the material for each, it’s time to take the real exam
I bought Attest this morning on Adobe Market Place and How can I use attest 3 on both my desktop and my laptop.
Thanks in advance.
@Dominique,
All you need to do is install it on the second machine and it’ll show you the green “buy” button again when you start up Attest. Click on that and it’ll take you to the Adobe site where you can log in and it will automatically activate the second copy for you.
Thanks!
I just downloaded the demo and I’m getting an error during startup that “My license can not be validated and to check my internet connection.”
I’m connected to the internet. Any thoughts ?
@Thomas,
That’s part of the built-in Adobe InMarket licensing. It wasn’t recognizing your internet connection, or so it seems. You should try again and it should allow you access to the app.
Hmm ok. I’ve tried multiple times. As well as un-installed/re-install .
@Thomas,
I’ll email you and if you can reply with a screenshot, that will help me figure out what’s going on.
I have 2 laptops, will I be able to use the license on both of them?
@Igor,
Yes, when you install on the second machine, just click the green purchase button again. It’ll take you to the Adobe site where you log in and it’ll automatically activate the second copy. You actually get 3 copies per license.
I have found broken link in the application. How to contact You? Or post an issue?
Just passed the test today successfully. Thank You guys for the app!
But there are still couple issues in the application, and I don’t remember any question on Design Patterns and nothing on effects.
I have cleared Adobe ACE 4.5 successfully….Thanks for the nice app.
Awesome news, congrats Reddy!
