In the last post, Holly and I broke down some of the updates we wanted to work into Attest and asked for votes on the highest priority. It was obvious that among the many items, more questions and answers was the clear winner. So we got to work on writing more and managed to add randomization to the order of questions so no two exams will be alike every time you take one. This will help make it tougher to memorize the answers.

Both of us are inundated with client work at the moment, but the vote went well and we found the time to get these new exams out. So hopefully, for those studying for the Flex 3 with AIR certification, you'll have much more here in the way of study material. Along with releasing new questions and answers periodically, we plan on implementing most of the other great feedback we received from users when time permits. Until then...it's busy being a Flexer go get certified!

Holly and I have had awesome feedback on Attest 1.5 since its release. We wanted to get a solid working version out for people to start practicing for the Flex 3 with AIR exam, but had many other plans originally. So mission accomplished, Attest has been a hit so far, and now it's time to get the 2.0 version out!

We compiled all the feedback we've received and created a list of the top requests. Now's your chance to vote for the feature you want to see most. Holly created this poll based on our list, and we're going to watch the results to decide on which features to turn out first. Eventually, we want all of them done but time is hard to come by, so we're going to be breaking them down into reasonable chunks as we progress.

If you have any other features in mind you'd like to see in Attest, as always, feel free to comment below or follow up on Holly's blog.

Basically, the new features we're looking at break down like this:

Learning feature - is an un-timed practice exam with a "show answer" feature that provides much more learning material

Community Area - You'll see This will be the fun stuff.

Web version - when 2.0 is released, we're going to have the full web version vs the AIR version so you can study online

More questions/answers - tougher questions with multiple levels in the learning feature and exam area

Ready? Set? VOTE!

I figured that things are getting so busy that this one deserves a post on the PXL Blog. I hear about heaps of Flex projects every day, some work out some don't but I thought if any Flexers out there currently looking, I could point you to some people to talk to. The Great Depression 2.0 might be underway, but if you're a Flex programmer, you might weather the storm much better than others.

The one I just heard about is 3 months of remote work in Flex, AS3, C#, and SQL. The project's not through PXL Designs, but I'm thinking 2009 is the year I will be filling seats (at some point). But I wanted to post it up and share some of the Flex goodness. Since I hear about a lot of great gigs, I figured I'd give a holler for any takers.

Almost certainly, at some point this year I'm going to be looking to team up with other developers on some projects, but I figured in the meantime let me just give a shout out for anyone looking for the good gigs that I can't fill. Can't complain about being booked

So if you're qualified, interested and available, give me a yell.

It's been an insanely busy year so far with tons of things going on. And it's not often PXL Designs gets to show off public facing projects. With that said, I'd like to present PeekabooPaperie.com!

Peekaboo Paperie.com Home Page

Peekaboo Paperie makes baby announcements with personality, and the coolest part of the site is that it uses Adobe Flex to allow customers to check out their baby's pictures in the announcement before they purchase.

This project was a joint effort between CAB Design, PXL Designs, LLC and Peekaboo Paperie. Jill Haydinger is the owner of Peekaboo Paperie as well as the designer of the baby announcements.

Site and Flash design was done by Christine Grippaldi at CAB Design, programming was done by yours truly at PXL and the announcements and other graphics were done by Jill at Peekaboo Paperie.

The site makes use of a few popular open source Flex components like Doug McCune's CoverFlow based on the PaperVision 3D and Tweener open source libraries, Dustin Andrew's File Upload component, and Marc Hughes' ObjectHandles component.

Baby Announcements

Upon picking an announcement you'll be able to create an account, upload your baby's photos and drag/drop them, scale, rotate, fit them just how you like. The site/app use PayPal for customer's orders, and once an order is placed the application creates a snapshot of the custom design for Jill's reference when she creates the print version for proofing.

Creating custom announcements

So if you're currently expecting, and looking for a kick butt baby announcement that far surpasses the typical run-of-the-mill designs to welcome your new bundle of joy, take a look at Peekaboo Paperie and Flex it up!
